Government Assignment Opportunity

Director of Acquisition Innovation Research Center

In support of the Department of Defense, we would like to call your attention to the following unique opportunity for you or your faculty and staff.

The Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment is looking for candidates to serve as the Director of the Acquisition Innovation Research Center (AIRC) in an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) capacity.

AIRC is a recently created Congressionally mandated research entity. AIRC’s mission is to leverage insights and capabilities from Academia that can infuse the U.S. defense acquisition system with the agility and speed now needed to better respond to the rapid increase of technological advancements critical to today’s warfighter. As a government official, the AIRC Director will work within the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Enablers.

An IPA position is a temporary assignment to serve a sound public purpose, such as assisting the transfer and use of new technologies and approaches to solving governmental problems, facilitating cooperation and insights between the federal government and non-federal entities, or providing program and developmental experience that will enhance the assignee’s performance in his or her regular job. Individuals on IPA remain employees of their current organization and retain their current salary and benefits but become government officials while on IPA. The duration for this assignment will be a minimum of one year but not to exceed four years—see Intergovernment Personnel Act (opm.gov).
