My DCTC Summer Internship Experience: An Incredible Opportunity

My DCTC summer internship at Program Executive Office – Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO-IEWS) has been such an incredible opportunity. It is hard to believe, but we are nearly halfway through the summer. These past four weeks have been very informative and have assisted in my personal growth and learning.

Our project for the summer relates to defensive/offensive testing capabilities. I’m collaborating with fellow DCTC scholars Jomar Roque and Sang Kang from Virginia Tech and Jackson Migala from Purdue. We have been researching coding languages, developing briefings and documentation, researching security protocols, completing mandatory training, and collaborating with DoD employees to understand process flows for vulnerability and penetration testing methodologies.

A highlight has been attending the TechNet Cyber 2024 conference in Baltimore! The event was attended by many government organizations as well as private companies, so it was a fantastic networking experience. It was also an honor that we were able to meet and speak with the DoD Chief Information Officer, Mr. Mark Gorak, and hear his remarks on “DoD Cyber Workforce Strategy: Growing the Next Generation of Cyber Talent”.

I am so thankful for our mentors and leaders within the PEO who have been extremely supportive, ensuring this experience is a great one for us.
